KOHALA COAST

The Kohala Coast is dotted with some of the finest luxury resorts in Hawaii. In this much sought-after location, boasting generally sunny year-'round weather, Hawaii's Best Bed & Breakfasts has selected a number of vacation cottages (call us for more information about our complete selection of beach house rentals) on the northwest coast of the Big Island. Close to the island's best white-sandy beaches and restaurants, this area offers the finest ocean views, with whale-watching opportunities from December through May, and a great spot from which to explore the island's north coast.

PUAKO VINTAGE BEACH COTTAGE MAKAI HALE
KONA VILLAGE RESORT

Puako Vintage Beach Cottage

If you have not heard of Puako on the North Kohala coast, it is probably because no one living there wants it to be discovered. This wonderful beach community has the history of being the driest place in Hawaii. With only 3 inches of rain per year, you can see why during the cold and damp months elsewhere, lodging at Puako is much sought after. It remains popular all year.

We are so pleased to add to our collection this immaculate cottage. For only two guests, every amenity has been thought of. The bedroom has a king bed with a slight ocean view. The fully furnished kitchen rivals that of any serious cook.

We also admire the detail in the exterior landscaping and the privacy provided. With both an indoor and outdoor shower, hammock, lanais for reading and beach access directly across from the gate, what a jewel. Rate of $225 per night. 3 night minimum. $300 security deposit (refundable), $85 Cleaning Fee.

Beach Access Across the Street

MAKAI HALE

This lovely private home, just four miles from the island's most beautiful white-sand beaches, continues to be one of our most sought-after locations.

The consistently sunny skies, magnificent ocean views, and expansive pool/jacuzzi deck, coupled with fine Hawaiian hospitality, have inspired one guest to comment: "It was like having a luxury resort all to ourselves." The bed and breakfast wing with queen-size bed opens directly to the swimming pool.   From December to May, whale watching is great at this 500 ft. elevation.   $145/nt add'l room available for 3rd or 4th person, $75. Rate for 2006 - $155. Min 2-nt stay. Hostess speaks Japanese.

KONA VILLAGE RESORT

upgrade program***

Readers of Conde Nast Traveler voted Kona Village Resort "The Best Tropical Resort in the World", and with good reason. Where else can you find your own thatched "hale" (bungalow) on a crescent of natural sandy beach, ringed with palm trees and cooled by the gentle tradewinds? It is often said that the resort's greatest assets are the things it doesn't have - no television, no radios, no room phones.

On 82 pristine acres, guests will find 125 private "hales" fronting the sea or surrounding lush lagoons - a full service resort where full breakfast, buffet lunch, and dinner are included. Menus rotate daily.

Kona Village Rates also include flower lei greeting, snorkeling gear, kayaks, sunfish and laser sailboats, glass-bottom boat excursions, tennis court usage and tennis clinics, fitness center, historical tours, and children's activities (except May and September), Polynesian arts and crafts, in-room amenities, and Friday night Luau.

We consider this to be one of the best luxury resort values in Hawaii. When you leave Hawaii after a stay at Kona Village, the feeling of Hawaii leaves with you.

$530 - $940 for two persons; $414 - $824 single; 2006 rates - $580 - $1050 for two persons, $460 - $930 single.Children's rates apply for ages 3-12 (except May and September). Resort closes annually for one week immediately following Thanksgiving holiday. No minimum night stay.
